Questions to ask in a sales job interview - Compensation


There are plenty of ways sales people are compensated by there employers Some reps are commission only, some commission/salary and some salary only. It is important to get a firm grasp of the job and its sales cycle before negotiating your pay structure. There are a couple questions you can ask in your interview to give you an idea who what how and what you can expect to be compensated.

1.  What is the average sale?

2.  What does the average sales person make in commissions?

3.  How long does it take to make a sale on average?

4. How long is the sales cycle (initial call to closing) or closing ratio?

5. Are commissions paid immediately or is there a wait?

6. What is the average time needed to be brought up to speed.

7. Will I be sharing my sales territory or commissions with another rep?

8. Is the base a draw?

9. How do you handle charge backs or commission dispute?

These are just some questions to help paint a picture or you expected earnings are that company. With commission only sales you’ll have to make sure you are financially stable enough (having some savings to pull from) so that you can afford a slight grace period. At the end of the day make a smart decision. Don’T take a risk with a company if you cannot afford to do so. There are plenty of other sales oppertunites and companies are in high demand for sales executives who can close. Don’t settle for less!
